With over 22 years of experience in asset management, investment banking and capital markets, Fahmi Alghussein holds the mandate to direct the strategic growth of Amwal as its Chief Executive Officer.
Fahmi has a successful track record of combining financial leadership focusing on client relationships, while enhancing commercial opportunities and expanding product portfolio that appeals to the regional banking and finance communities. His business insights clubbed with his approach to enhancing the rapidly evolving investment community in the region has been central to his success. Fahmi is credited with contributing to the development of strong relationships with key financial organisations in Qatar such as cementing partnerships with Ahli Bank on the Qatar Gate Fund and launching the Al Hayer GCC fund with Doha Bank.
He has been instrumental in the launch of key strategic initiatives within the global banking industry, including setting up Citigroup’s MENA equities platform in London and the best-in-class MENA equities sales, trading and prime brokerage for Morgan Stanley amongst others. Fahmi has executed over USD 1 billion in MENA equity offerings that include the IPOs for Investcom, Hikma, Depa and Nawras, in addition to several follow-on GDRs for Commercial Bank of Qatar, Bank Muscat CBQ and Investcorp.
Fahmi holds a Baccalaureate Honours in political science and international relations, with a minor in history from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.
Hani Abdo is a focused, energetic and driven investment and operations executive with over 18 years of experience with blue chip organizations, family groups and private equity.
In his current capacity as an Executive Director at Nasser Bin Khaled Al Thani & Sons Holding Company (NBK), Hani has strategic and operating roles at the group level and sits as a Board member on several of NBK’s operating entities. He is the mastermind behind NBK’s strategic road map whereby he has made explicit recommendations on restructuring, divestments, as well as new investments in order to meet the Shareholder’s aspirations over a 10 year time horizon and prepare NBK for a market opportunity. Hani drove the entire consolidation and restructuring of the group’s debt and put together a robust plan to optimize the group’s balance sheet. He drafted specific value accretive strategic initiatives that aim at institutionalizing the group and putting it on the path to a market event by 2020. Operationally, Hani is responsible for the growth and development of 10 operating entities and 8 joint venture partnerships.
In his capacity as Vice President at Abraaj Capital he executed and managed transactions with an aggregate enterprise value of US$ 3 billion in various industries including grocery retail, aviation, healthcare, distribution, media, FMCG, education, manufacturing. He has also worked closely with members of the asset management team exploring large cap investments in commodities (gold and copper operating entities).
Hani’s passion for investment and operations keeps him deeply involved in pre as well as post acquisition providing strategic and tactical guidance to drive operational improvement and create value for all stakeholders.
Talal Samhouri has over 22 years of asset management and investment banking experience in the MENA region and the USA. Prior to his current position at Amwal, Talal was the head of Private Equity and Corporate Finance at Dar Al Mal Ltd. in DIFC, where he was responsible for launching a UK Real Estate Fund, in addition to M&A and capital structure advisory services for GCC institutions and family groups. Previously, Talal headed the MENA Asset Management Division of Global Investment House in Kuwait, with AuM of over $ 3.5 billion, he was responsible for establishing and running the asset management team of over 23 professionals across 4 regional offices in the MENA region. Formerly, Talal was a fund manager and then head of the asset management department at AB Invest (previously Atlas Investment Group), subsidiary of Arab Bank group. Before moving back to the MENA region, Talal started his career in auditing and financial advisory in the U.S. with American Express Financial Corp. During his tenure, Talal has built comprehensive experience in sourcing, structuring and managing various investment opportunities in the MENA region.
Talal earned his B.Sc. In Accounting and MBA in Finance, Real Estate and Insurance. In addition, he is a CFA Charterholder since 2003.
Rami Jamal has over 8 years of industry experience and has recently joined Amwal as a portfolio manager covering regional Equities and Fixed Income markets. Prior to joining Amwal, Rami was a portfolio manager with SICO investment Bank in Bahrain for 5 years, where he was responsible for managing Balanced (Equities and Fixed Income) discretionary portfolios. Prior to being a portfolio manager, Rami covered telecom and consumer sectors as a Buy-Side Analyst.
Previous experiences include working as a Finance Officer at Family Bank and as a Premier Officer at Mashreq Bank Bahrain. Rami is a CFA Level 2 candidate, and a Bachelor’s Degree holder in Economics and Finance.
Kamlesh Kasala has 12 years of experience in Risk Management, Private Equity, Fixed Income, Compliance and Asset Management. Prior to Amwal, he was heading the Risk Management and Compliance at Oasis Capital Bank, Bahrain where he was responsible for the overall risk profile including Credit Risk, Market Risk, operational risk, investment risk and regulatory compliance. He was also the MLRO and a key member of the Bank’s Investment Committee and ALCo.
He has previously worked with regional Investment firms Al Mustaqbal Investments, Ritaj Capital and a GCC conglomerate Alghanim Industries overseeing key risks, evaluating and executing private equity investments in MENA and monitoring performance of investment portfolios. He is a CFA and FRM charter holder. He holds an MBA from IIT Bombay and a bachelors in Electronics & Communications Engineering from JNT University, India.
